Sacramento, CA – In the final weeks of the campaign, more than 100 local government officials – mayors, vice mayors, supervisors, councilmembers, and former elected officials – have endorsed Proposition 37.
The measure creates a pathway for more affordable homeownership for middle class Californians by requiring just 3% downpayment, rather than the traditional 20% downpayment generally required.
“Mayors, Councilmembers and County Supervisors see the housing shortage up close every day, and Prop 37 gives up a practical tool to build more homes for middle-class families, with no cost to taxpayers and no new burden on city budgets,” said Mayor Thomas Wong, Monterey Park. “We can create more housing and more opportunities for homeownership by passing Prop 37 on November 3.”
Prop 37 helps address California’s housing affordability crisis by incentivizing new single family home construction and increasing the supply of brand new homes. The measure is expected to spur construction of roughly 190,000 new homes, generating significant economic benefits throughout the state.
