Sacramento, CA – The California School Employees Association (CSEA) joins a growing list of labor unions and education advocacy organizations in their support of Proposition 37. 

The measure unlocks homeownership for more middle-class families by making it possible to buy a new home with just 3% down, while spurring a wave of new home construction across the state – all at no cost to taxpayers.

CSEA members perform a wide range of essential work in our public schools and community colleges, including security, food services, office and clerical work, school maintenance and operations, transportation, academic assistance and paraeducator services, library and media assistance, computer services and more.

“Our members face the same challenges that so many Californians do: an immeasurable barrier of skyrocketing downpayments in order to own a home. We need to do better for the workers who care for kids across the state, and that’s exactly what Prop 37 will do,” said Adam Weinberger, CSEA’s Association President. “Prop 37 will give working and middle-class Californians the opportunity to afford a home, build equity and invest in their communities. We’re proud to support Prop 37 and encourage voters to say YES this fall.”

California has the second-worst homeownership rate in the country, and with the state’s median home price recently hitting $930,000, a traditional 20% down payment requires nearly $186,000 just to get in the door. Prop 37 establishes consumer-friendly, low-interest Middle-Class Home Loans so that more Californians can afford to buy a home – without costing taxpayers a dime.
